The DocuSeal Certificate of Signature, also referred to as the Audit Log, is a digitally generated document containing the log of all signing events, and it accompanies every document completed through the DocuSeal platform. It provides a verifiable history of the signing events and serves as an integrity and authenticity record for legal and compliance purposes.
The Certificate of Signature is automatically generated once all participants have completed their signing actions and the document reaches a completed state. It is stored with the finalized document and remains accessible for download by the document owner or other authorized signers (if the document owner allows it).
Each certificate includes detailed metadata for every signing event, recorded separately for each individual party, including:
These details collectively ensure that each signing action can be independently verified, confirming the authenticity of the process and the document’s unaltered state after completion.
The complete event history is also displayed on the submission page and returned in the submission_events array of the Get Submission API response.
The DocuSeal Certificate of Signature provides an auditable record that supports compliance with major electronic signature regulations, including the U.S. ESIGN Act, UETA, and the EU eIDAS Regulation.
In legal or regulatory proceedings, the certificate can be presented as evidence of:
Together with the signed document, the Certificate of Signature forms a legally admissible proof of execution under applicable electronic signature laws.
